If you’re seeking a truly enchanting island escape, then allow me to whisk you away to the hidden gem of the Aegean Sea: Lipsi, Greece.

I recently had the pleasure of setting foot on this tranquil paradise, and let me tell you, it’s an experience like no other. Imagine a place where time slows down and worries dissipate with every gentle sea breeze.Β

Welcome to Lipsi, Greece, a captivating haven with a pristine landscape, warm-hearted locals, and a vibrant cultural tapestry waiting to be explored.

As a travel blogger, who is always on the lookout for hidden treasures, Lipsi was a revelation. Nestled amongst the Dodecanese Islands, this tiny island seemed untouched by the usual tourist crowds that flood other popular Greek destinations, like Zakynthos or Santorini.

And believe me, that’s precisely what makes Lipsi so irresistible; it retains its unspoiled charm, offering an authentic Greek experience without the hustle and bustle.

The moment I stepped off the ferry onto Lipsi’s shores, I knew I had stumbled upon something extraordinary.

Sun-kissed beaches with crystal-clear waters greeted me, inviting me to surrender to their embrace (I know… but it is tough not to be poetic when you feel like you found something exceptional).Β

Stepping out from the ferry, I found myself in Lipsi town, the main village on Lipsi (and the only one). The locals greeted me with warm smiles and genuine hospitality, making me feel like more than just a tourist – I felt like part of the Lipsi family.

In this Lipsi travel guide, I’ll be your virtual tour guide, taking you on a journey through every corner of Lipsi, Greece.

We’ll dive into the best way to get here, the finest accommodations that cater to every budget, and the tantalizing Greek cuisine that will leave your taste buds singing.

Moreover, we’ll uncover some of the island’s best-kept secrets, ensuring you don’t miss a single breathtaking sight or unforgettable experience.

Lipsi isn’t just a destination; it’s a transformative escape that embraces you in its warmth and leaves you with memories to cherish for a lifetime.

So, let’s embark on this journey together – pack your bags (see my blog post on What to pack for Greece), and let me show you why Lipsi, Greece, deserves a top spot on your travel bucket list.Β

Getting to Lipsi, Greece

Getting to the island of Lipsi, Greece, is an adventure in itself, offering travelers a choice of both scenic ferry rides and convenient air travel.

If you’re coming from afar or international locations, the most common route is to fly into one of Greece’s major airports, such as Athens International Airport (Eleftherios Venizelos) or Kos International Airport.Β

From there, you can either catch a domestic flight to Leros Island, which is the nearest airport to Lipsi, or continue your journey by sea. For those seeking a more immersive experience, the ferry ride from Piraeus, Athens’ main port, is an absolute delight.

The ferry journey takes you through the cerulean waters of the Aegean, revealing breathtaking island panoramas along the way.

There’s something magical about the anticipation of reaching Lipsi by sea – the island slowly emerges on the horizon, and the salty sea breeze signals that you’re about to embark on an unforgettable island retreat.

Whether you choose to arrive by ferry or take a combination of air and sea travel, the journey to Lipsi sets the perfect tone for the extraordinary adventures that await.

Even though the journey to Lipsi may be long, there’s no need to worry about discomfort. During our ferry ride from Piraeus (I took Blue Star Ferries from Piraeus to Lipsi town), we opted for a cabin, ensuring that we could travel in absolute comfort and style.

Having a cabin allowed us to relax and recharge after the excitement of exploring Athens and embark on our journey to Lipsi well-rested.Β

Β

The cabin was well-equipped, providing cozy beds and essential amenities, making the trip feel like a mini-adventure in itself.

As we sailed across the Aegean, gazing at the endless blue horizon from the comfort of our cabin, time seemed to slow down, allowing us to appreciate the anticipation of reaching our holiday destination.Β

How to Get Around Lipsi Greece

While there are various ways to get around Lipsi, renting a scooter or car is the most convenient and rewarding option, especially if you wish to explore the island’s diverse beaches.

With a scooter or car at your disposal, you have the freedom to venture beyond the main village and access secluded coves and pristine stretches of sand that might be slightly off the beaten path.

Whether you’re traveling with a group of friends or seeking a romantic escape, the freedom of having your wheels ensures that you can fully savor the beauty of each beach and capture stunning vistas along the way.Β

Alternatively, electric bicycles and scooters are available for rent, providing a fun and eco-friendly way to discover the island’s nooks and crannies.

These two-wheeled adventures offer flexibility and access to slightly more remote spots, where breathtaking views and untouched beauty await.

For longer distances or to visit neighboring islets, boat tours and water taxis are readily available, letting you embrace the azure waters and hop between captivating destinations.

On our first day, we did island tour with Lipsi Travel Services, who showed us around the best places in Lipsi. I recommend doing that on your first day just like we did, so that you get an overview of the island.

No matter how you choose to get around Lipsi, each mode of transport adds to the overall charm of the island, ensuring that your exploration is filled with fond memories and unmissable experiences.

Best Time To Visit Lipsi

Lipsi, despite being a breathtaking destination, remains delightfully uncrowded. When my husband and I visited in June, we were in for a treat.

The weather was absolutely perfect, with warm, sunny days and comfortable evenings, creating an ideal atmosphere for exploration and relaxation.

What amazed us the most was that, even during this prime time of the year, we often found ourselves on pristine beaches with barely another soul in sight. It was as if we had discovered our private slice of paradise.

This serene atmosphere allowed us to fully connect with the island’s beauty and appreciate its unspoiled charm.

Lipsi’s tranquil and laid-back nature, combined with its breathtaking landscapes, truly made our trip an unforgettable and peaceful escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.

Snowshoeing is one of the best ways to get outside and enjoy the beauty of winter. And to enjoy the famous JAPOW - the iconic great powder of Japan!

Fresh snow in Hokkaido is said to be of the finest quality. So fine, in fact, that skiers and snowboarders all over the world insist on riding JAPOW at least once in their lifetime. Have you tried it already?

Arigato Japan for all the memories πŸ™πŸ»πŸŽŒ A Arigato Japan for all the memories πŸ™πŸ»πŸŽŒ

As you can see I couldn’t stop smiling during my trip to Japan - I became a true winter fan β„οΈπŸ˜

But what’s not to love?

Scenery is absolutely stunning and the food is delicious (imagine delicious bowl of ramen on a cold day 🍜). There is so much to do such as Ice and Snow Festivals around Hokkaido plus hips of activities such as snowshoeing, skiing and snowboarding ⛷️ And my absolute favorite part are Onsens - traditional Japanese hot baths πŸ§–β€β™€οΈ nothing better than a dip In hot springs after a day out in the snow 😍
