Every year, as the final months roll in, I’m thrilled to share my handpicked list of the best places to visit in 2025.

This isn’t just a roundup of trendy spotsβ€”it’s a collection of destinations I’ve personally explored, each deserving more love and attention from travellers in the upcoming year.

For 2025, I’ve handpicked destinations that truly deserve a spot on your travel listβ€”places that captivated me with their landscapes, culture, and adventure, away from the usual crowds.Β

On my list of the best places to visit in 2025, you will find lesser-known islands, charming European towns, and something special for every type of traveler ready to make new memories and experience true hospitality away from the crowds.

Let’s jump in!

1. Andros, Greece

First on my list of the best places to visit in 2025 is Andros, Greece – a versatile destination that offers so much more than its gorgeous beaches.

Known as the only Cycladic island that boasts lush valleys, streams, and waterfalls.

With an extensive network of hiking trails, Andros is a haven for outdoor enthusiasts, while its quiet beaches make it just as appealing for those seeking relaxation.

Andros is located in the northern Cyclades and is one of the most convenient Greek islands to reach from Athens.

A quick 2–2.5-hour ferry ride from the port of Rafina makes it an accessible escape, even for a weekend trip. The island’s proximity to the mainland is just one of the many reasons it stands out.

Who would have guessed you could reach this stunning island in under three hours from Athens? While most Greek islands require long ferry rides, this one offers the perfect blend of convenience and beauty, making it an exceptional getaway. And it’s so easy to bring your baby along too!

We visited Andros with Max when he was only 7 months old, and it was incredibly easy to explore as a family.

One of our most memorable adventures was venturing into Foros Cave in Aladinou, with its fascinating stalactites and stalagmitesβ€”a moment that added a sense of wonder to our trip.Β

We also loved spending time in Menites, a charming village known for its whitewashed houses and beautiful fruit trees. Walking through its shaded streets felt like stepping into a storybook.

The beaches of Andros were equally unforgettable. Gialia Beach, with its crystal-clear waters and serene atmosphere, was the perfect spot to unwind.

I really loved the fact that there were no crowds and you could really relax without anyone bothering you.

In Batsi, a picturesque fishing village, we enjoyed leisurely strolls along the harbor, soaking in the peaceful ambiance.

Batsi was so charming it completely won us over, and we found ourselves wishing we could stay longer.

Between the pretty harbor, the inviting waterfront cafes, and the relaxed vibe, it felt like the perfect spot to go on a daily stroller walks with Max.

Sadly, we didn’t have enough time in our schedule, but it’s definitely a place we’d love to come back to and enjoy at a slower pace.

Hora, the capital of Andros, is full of charm, blending the classic Cycladic vibe with a touch of Venetian elegance.

Perched on a slender peninsula, its whitewashed houses and red-tiled roofs overlook the sparkling Aegean, creating postcard-perfect views at every turn.

Apparently, you can climb over the ruins of a Venetian castle for a completely different perspective of the town and its stunning surroundings.

Unfortunately, this wasn’t something we could do during our visit since we were traveling with a baby, but do it if you can.

The idea of looking out over Hora from such a historic spot makes it even more special.

Hora’s lively squares and waterfront tavernas offer a taste of Andros’ authentic flavors, while its serene vibe and panoramic sea views make it a destination you’ll never want to leave.

We savored traditional dishes like froutalia, a hearty omelet with sausage and potatoes, and the island’s signature amygdalota almond sweets.Β

With its blend of adventure, culture, and mouthwatering food, Andros proved to be a versatile and family-friendly destination that we can’t recommend enough!

2. Ronda, Spain

Ronda, perched high above a breathtaking gorge, is one of Andalusia’s most romantic towns, offering a mix of history, stunning views, and cultural charm.Β

Famous for the dramatic Puente Nuevo bridge spanning the El Tajo gorge, Ronda is a place where ancient Moorish and Roman influences blend seamlessly with its picturesque whitewashed houses and cobbled streets.

The town is also home to Spain’s oldest bullring, a testament to its rich cultural heritage.Β

Only 90 minutes from Marbella, Ronda is the perfect day trip for those eager to explore its romantic charm, hike through its scenic surroundings, and soak in the beauty of one of Spain’s most iconic towns.

Ronda is also a haven for nature lovers, surrounded by stunning landscapes perfect for outdoor exploration. The rugged hills and valleys that define the area are ideal for hiking and offer incredible viewpoints over the town and gorge.Β

For a deeper dive into Ronda’s natural beauty, we explored the nearby Sierra de las Nieves Natural Park, known for its lush forests, diverse wildlife, and mountain trails.

After a day of adventure, we relaxed in one of Ronda’s charming cafΓ©s, sipping local wines and savoring Andalusian tapas.

3.Β  Aizuwakamatsu, Japan

Aizuwakamatsu, located in Japan’s picturesque Fukushima Prefecture, is a must-visit destination steeped in samurai history and surrounded by natural beauty.Β

Conveniently located on the way to Hokkaidoβ€”one of Japan’s top island destinationsβ€”it’s an ideal stop to immerse yourself in the culture, history, and relaxation that define this special part of Japan.

Known as the “Samurai City,” its centerpiece is the stunning Tsuruga Castle, a beautifully reconstructed fortress offering panoramic views and a museum that dives deep into the region’s rich heritage.Β

The area’s traditional charm is alive in the streets of Nanokamachi, lined with shops and buildings reminiscent of Japan’s Edo period, while Higashiyama Onsen invites visitors to unwind in soothing hot springs.

Aizuwakamatsu is also renowned for its culinary delights, including wappa-meshi, a flavorful steamed rice dish served in a wooden container, and its exceptional sake, brewed using pristine local waters.Β

I stayed at Aizu Ashinomaki Hot Spring Resort Hotel which offers a serene retreat in the heart of Japan’s countryside, perfect for unwinding after exploring the region.

Its standout feature is the onsen, offering natural hot spring baths with breathtaking views of the surrounding mountains and river.

The soothing waters provide relaxation and rejuvenation, making it an incredible experience.

The hotel combines traditional Japanese hospitality with modern comfort, ensuring a memorable and restorative stay that immerses you in the local culture and tranquility of Aizu.

4. Turin, Italy

The next place on the list of best places to visit in 2025 is Turin, located in Italy’s Piedmont region.Β

This Italian city is renowned as the “Chocolate Capital” of the country, celebrated for its rich chocolate heritage.

Β

If you’re a chocolate enthusiast, Turin is a dream destination, offering everything from artisanal chocolatiers to historic chocolate cafΓ©s.Β

The city’s indulgent treats are a must-try, and for those with a sweet tooth, you can combine the experience of savoring gourmet chocolates in Turin with sampling artisanal gelato in San Gimignano, Tuscanyβ€”making for an unforgettable Italian dessert journey.

Turin also hosts annual Chocolate Festival, CioccolatΓ², which is a highlight of the year.Β

Held in the elegant piazzas of the city, this event celebrates Turin’s rich chocolate-making tradition, dating back to the 17th century.

Visitors can try a variety of treats, from artisanal chocolates and creamy gianduja to innovative creations by master chocolatiers. The festival also features workshops, tastings, and demonstrations, making it a delightful experience for foodies.

5. Sri Lanka

Tea Plantations Sri Lanka

Sri Lanka is one island that absolutely deserves a prime spot on your 2024 travel bucket list.

Despite enduring its fair share of challenges, including the pandemic, economic downturns, and supply chain issues that have hit its tourism sector hard, this nation still shines bright with its resilience and charm.

I count myself incredibly fortunate to have spent three magical weeks in Sri Lanka back in February 2020, just before the world was turned upside down by the pandemic.

And let me tell you, this island stole a piece of my heart that I’ll never get back – in the best possible way.

From its full of tropical fish waters, pristine sandy beaches and thrilling surf breaks to its national parks with vibrant wildlife, Sri Lanka is a true treasure trove of experiences waiting to be uncovered.

What’s truly remarkable about Sri Lanka is the sheer diversity packed into such a compact space.

One moment, you could be riding the waves at sunrise, and by dusk, you’re soaking in the breathtaking vistas of lush green tea fields – talk about a day well spent!

But the magic doesn’t stop there.

Sri Lanka offers a little something for everyone, whether you’re craving a relaxing beach getaway, an adrenaline-fueled safari adventure, or a culinary journey through its tantalizing flavors.

And let’s not forget about the warmth and hospitality of the Sri Lankan people, who are renowned for their kindness and generosity.

And speaking of flavors, Sri Lanka’s culinary scene is an adventure in itself.

From the comforting goodness of kottu roti to the exotic delights of local fruits and the sweet indulgence of watalappan, every bite is a journey into a world of tantalizing tastes found nowhere else on earth.

Β

So, if you’re in search of a destination that promises a little bit of everything – sun, surf, wildlife, adventure, and unforgettable flavors – look no further than Sri Lanka.

6. Fraser Island, Australia

As my plane gracefully ascended from the sandy shores of Seventy-Five Mile Beach, the immensity and grandeur of Fraser Island unfolded beneath me.

Flying over this vast expanse of sand, forest, and ocean, I felt a profound sense of awe for this huge sand strap off Australia’s coast.

Fraser Island

From the air, I had a bird’s-eye view of the island’s rugged coastline, where the crashing waves met the golden sands of beautiful beaches (shark-infested though), and the lush greenery of the tropical rainforests contrasted with the sparkling blues of the surrounding ocean.Β

It was a perspective that truly highlighted the island’s status as the largest sand island in the world and emphasized its significance as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Descending back on the beach, I eagerly embarked on a journey to explore Fraser Island up close and personal.

One of the most exhilarating moments came as we touched down on the beach runway, where the roar of the engines was replaced by the soothing sound of the waves lapping against the shore.

Stepping out onto the sand, I couldn’t help but feel a sense of adventure coursing through my veins, knowing that I was about to discover all that this extraordinary island had to offer.

As we ventured inland, we were greeted by the sight of Fraser Island’s famed dingoes, wild and free in their natural habitat.

These iconic Australian animals are a symbol of the island’s untamed wilderness and even though they seem friendly they are dangerous.

Fraser Island - champagne pools

But it wasn’t just the wildlife that captivated me; it was also the island’s stunning natural features, such as the crystalline waters of Lake McKenzie and the ethereal beauty of the Champagne Pools on sunny days.Β

This is the group tour I did and highly recommend especially if you don’t feel comfortable driving 4Γ—4 on the beach full of dingos.

7. Antigua, Guatemala

Β

Antigua, Guatemala, was one of those rare destinations that took me completely by surprise.

I hadn’t seen it hyped on social media or glamorized in movies, so I arrived with no preconceived expectationsβ€”just curiosity.

What I found was a charming colonial town framed by majestic volcanoes, with cobblestone streets, colorful facades, and an incredible energy.

One of the highlights of my trip was hiking an active volcano, Acatenango, a physically demanding challenge that pushed me to my limits but rewarded me with awe-inspiring views and a real sense of accomplishment.

Adding to the adventure, I stayed in a stunning jungle lodge, where nights were serenaded by the sounds of natureβ€”crickets chirping, leaves rustling, and distant animal calls.

It felt like stepping into another world, completely removed from the chaos of everyday life.

Antigua offered not just beauty but also a connection to nature and a chance to immerse myself in a culture I knew little about, making it one of the most rewarding travel experiences I’ve ever had.

8. Hoi An, Vietnam

Hoi An, Vietnam, is an enchanting place that feels like a step back in time.

With no cars or traffic allowed in the old town, the atmosphere is calm and relaxing, letting you truly soak in its charm.Β

At night, the Thu Bon River comes alive with small boats lit by lanterns drifting peacefully, while the bustling night market offers an array of fascinating street foods to try.Β

Β

It was here that I discovered the best egg coffee in Vietnamβ€”a rich, velvety drink that perfectly complemented the magical setting.Β

Wandering the lantern-lit streets, savoring unique flavors, and enjoying the peaceful traffic-free ambiance made Hoi An an unforgettable experience.

9. Vardzia Cave Monastery, Georgia

Nestled in the rugged cliffs of southern Georgia, Vardzia Cave Monastery is a marvel of medieval architecture and a testament to the ingenuity of 12th-century craftsmanship.

Carved into the Erusheti Mountain during the reign of Queen Tamar, this sprawling cave complex served as both a monastery and a fortress, designed to protect the region from invaders.

Today, it stands as a hauntingly beautiful reminder of Georgia’s rich history and religious heritage.

Vardzia isn’t just a collection of cavesβ€”it’s a multi-level city etched into the rock, complete with churches, chapels, living quarters, wine cellars, and irrigation systems.

At its peak, it housed over 2,000 monks and spanned 13 levels, with more than 500 chambers interconnected by tunnels.

The highlight of the site is the Church of the Dormition, adorned with stunning frescoes depicting Queen Tamar, biblical scenes, and the artistry of a bygone era.

Getting to Vardzia is an adventure in itself, with winding roads that take you through Georgia’s dramatic landscapes.

The journey offers sweeping views of the Mtkvari River and the lush green valleys below.

Exploring the monastery involves climbing steep pathways and tunnels, but the effort is well worth it.

Each chamber and corridor reveals more of the site’s complexity, offering a glimpse into the lives of the monks who once called it home.

10. Zakopane, Poland

snow in Poland in winter

Nestled at the foot of the Tatra Mountains, Zakopane is Poland’s most famous winter resort and a magical destination deserving a spot on your best places to visit in 2025 travel list.Β

While it’s a well-loved spot for Poles, it’s still under the radar internationally, making it a hidden gem for travelers seeking an authentic winter escape.Β

Zakopane offers a dreamy mix of adventure, culture, and charm, making it perfect for both skiers and non-skiers alike.

For ski enthusiasts, Zakopane boasts several ski slopes with stunning alpine views.

Non-skiers will find plenty to do, including the enchanting kuligβ€”a traditional horse-drawn sleigh ride through snowy forests.Β

snow maze in zakopane

Β

Families and adventurers can explore the world’s largest snow maze or experience the thrill of snowmobile rides through pristine mountain landscapes.Β

Foodies can dive into regional traditions by crafting their own oscypek, the iconic smoked cheese of the region.

Beyond the activities, Zakopane’s unique Goral culture shines through in its wooden architecture, lively folklore, and delicious mountain cuisine.Β

Whether you’re seeking snow-filled adventure or cozy mountain charm, Zakopane is a winter destination like no other, just waiting to be discovered.

11. Gibraltar

Gibraltar, a tiny British territory at the southern tip of Spain, is a fascinating destination with a mix of natural wonders, history, and shopping.Β

The iconic Rock of Gibraltar dominates the skyline and offers stunning views of the Mediterranean and the African coastline.

But Gibraltar is more than just its iconic Rockβ€”it’s a vibrant, colourful destination with a mix of natural wonders, fascinating history, and stunning views.Β

Gibraltar is a destination packed with adventure, history, and charm. The iconic Rock of Gibraltar offers breathtaking views, especially from the Skywalkβ€”a thrilling glass platform overlooking Sandy Bay, Spain, and even Morocco.Β

The Rock is also home to the famous Barbary macaques, the only wild monkeys in Europe.Β

Nearby, St. Michael’s Cave dazzles visitors with its stunning light and sound show, β€œThe Awakening,” and fascinating WWII history.

For history enthusiasts, the Pillars of Hercules connect visitors to ancient mythology, while Princess Caroline’s Battery provides one of the best viewpoints, offering glimpses of planes landing on Gibraltar’s dramatic runway.Β

Down at Europa Point, the iconic Trinity Lighthouse marks the southernmost tip of the peninsula, surrounded by a rich maritime legacy.

Another reason to be on your best places to visit in 2025 list is the fact that as a duty-free zone, Gibraltar is perfect for shopping. Pair your adventure with indulgent treats like fish and chips, ice cream, or giant cinnamon buns, and you’ll discover why Gibraltar leaves such a lasting impression.
